Newark Memorial High School
Technology Center
Newark Unified School District
Newark, California
The Newark Memorial High School Technology Center has the flexibility and infrastructure to support modern and future technology educational programs within a variety of disciplines: computers, electronics, robotics and media. It’s greatest challenge was to instill a corporate image within an academic setting that would inspire students and staff.
Students, staff and community were all involved in the planning and vision of this facility. The community of this campus is inhabited by high technology operations such as Cisco, Sun Microsystems, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and many others. Ultimately, the planning process determined that this facility should reflect the vision and culture of this region’s high technology heritage.
The design reflects the campus’ and community’s aspirations for an invigorating high technology / academic environment. The need to create a high technology image and the persistent need to mitigate vandalism led to the choice of porcelain panels and concrete as exterior materials. This material selection provides an extremely durable and handsome all-encompassing solution.
The community outreach capacity of this facility, via broadcast media, is breathtaking. The growing community demand for these facilities now appear to be outpacing the needs of its academic schedule. The extremely high quality level of technology and broadcast studio capabilities are creating these boundless demands.
Prior campus facilities were built in many phases. These prior facilities were in need of facilities that could provide a more invigorating campus environment and a more pleasant campus image. This facility’s implementation not only provides an enhancement to the existing campus’ academic program, but it also provides a much needed enhancement to the campus’ image to the community and its students.
