De Anza High School is moving forward with a replacement of the 50 year-old existing campus. The planning of the new campus provides for some exciting and creative approaches that are both economical and respectful of the long term needs of this important campus. Important issues being addressed in the planning with the school site and community members include:

• Allowing the existing campus to remain functional while the new campus is built in adjacent open areas. This will save tremendous public funds by avoiding temporary facilities.

• Positioning the academic classrooms away from Valley View Road to improve upon the academic environment. The public side of the campus is where the evening and after-hour use facilities are positioned.

• Positioning the Campus Commons / Quad away from the street creates a sheltered student social environment.

• Creating a distinctive entry point to the campus from the street side plaza will establish a controlled gateway to the campus.

• The performing arts theater will be a prominent statement on the campus.

• Improved bus and student loading zones are planned.

• The potential for an aquatic/swim facility is incorporated into the master plan.

• New academic facilities with state-of-the-art amenities will provide an enhanced learning environment for students and staff.
