This prestigious 32,800 s.f. facility serves as the divisional headquarters for Motorola, a Fortune 500 company that stands as world leader in communications and electronics. The first phase of a multiphase project, this office center was tailor-made to meet the specific needs of Motorola's business operations. The center utilizes glu-lam and heavy timber in its construction, with enclosures of concrete, wood and glass. Wooden beams create large overhangs, lending the structure its distinctive linear form. A natural wood exterior serves to integrate the center with surrounding groves of eucalyptus. Interior offices feature such elements as a suspended wood ceiling grid that provides a "floating" light plane, as well as an acoustical treatment and accessible utility systems above. The project is further distinguished as one of Motorola's most energy-efficient facilities in the United States. This is achieved through such features as task lighting, thorough insulation and a recyclable air delivery system. Located in San Diego's Scripts Ranch Business Park, this center provides Motorola with aesthetic, functional offices where the future challenges of the communications and electronics industry can be met.
